Eating for a beautiful skin

Eating a nutritious and varied diet can work wonders for your skin. By just applying creams and lotions, you can improve your skin from the outside but a good healthy diet works from the inside out.

To have a beautiful skin, you need to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and drink a lot of water.

These are a few essentials for your skin:

1. Water.

70%of your body is water and to have a clear skin one needs to drinks 2-2.5 lt per day. Water clears out toxins from the body and helps in keeping your skin clean and beautiful.

2. Vitamin A.

Vitamin A is essential for the growth and repairs of certain tissues e.g. the skin.

A diet rich in vitamin A includes lots of yellow colored fruits and vegetables as well as foods like milk and milk products, meats, chicken.

3. Vitamin C.

The skin looks beautiful when firm and one of the functions of Vitamin C is for collagen synthesis.

Vitamin C rich foods are kiwi, oranges, guavas and dark green leafy vegetables.

In Mauritius, fresh fruits and vegetables are in abundance and one needs a minimum of 400 g per day. Fresh fruit juices are very healthy but eating the whole fruit will also provide fibre.

4. Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant just like Vitamin A and C.

Vitamin E neutralizes free radicals that cause ageing. It is found in almonds, nuts and oilseeds.

Some amount of nuts should be included in the diet e.g. few almonds in your breakfast cereals, peanuts chutney, sesame seeds on bread rolls, cashew nuts in your rice preparations.
