Prominent Hollywood film director Tony Scott has committed suicide

Prominent Hollywood film director Tony Scott, whose works included "Top Gun," has committed suicide by jumping off a bridge in San Pedro, California, The Los Angeles Times reported late Sunday.

Citing unnamed Los Angeles police sources, the newspaper said Scott's body was pulled out of the water near the Vincent Thomas Bridge by police and US Coast Guard officials.

According to the report investigators found a suicide note in his car, which was parked on the bridge.

Several witnesses saw Scott climb over a fence on the bridge and jump into the water, the paper said.

Besides "Top Gun," a blockbuster featuring Tom Cruise, Scott also directed "Enemy of the State," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."
